Italy-Ukraine, one-way?
The adventures and misadventures of a war reporterItaly-Ukraine, one way? is a narrative reportage of the first months of the war in Ukraine, but also a lucid and ironic account of the profession of journalism in war zones, the difficulty of objectively reporting such complex realities, and the fundamental role of information and press freedom in a present that is increasingly difficult to read and interpret.
February 2023, Kyiv: Andrea Sceresini, a freelance journalist, and Alfredo Bosco, a photojournalist, both on site covering the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, receive an email from the local Ministry of Defense notifying them of the suspension of their journalistic accreditations.
Not a word about the reasons for this revocation, which means they must lock themselves in the tiny apartment they rented awaiting questioning by the secret services, which never comes. Without their accreditation, they are unable to move, walk around, or even return in Italy.
Meanwhile, rumors are starting to circulate that the two are pro-Russian spies...
But how did it get this far? To answer this question, Sceresini retraces his experience as a reporter in Ukraine, going back to the 2014 war in Donbass and forward to 2023, reporting surreal, picaresque, and distressing episodes, while also recounting the history of those lands and the conflicts that have torn them apart in recent years.
