was born in Grosseto. He was a professor, librarian, journalist, translator, sportscaster. He promoted an itinerant library-van called Bibliobus to alphabetize the workers of his county, and he wrote with Cassola a reportage on the miners (published by minimum fax). His most popular novel, The Hard Life (1962), is the disenchanted chronical of the Italian economic miracle.
