A major step into the reality of young contemporary narrative
The publishing house minimum fax, with shrewdness and caution, but with a growing dose of determination, continues to dedicate itself to the new Italian narrative
In the wake of the highly successful collection Qualità dell’aria (The Quality of Air), minimum fax offers a new narrative anthology, in the fundamental spirit of the publishing house: the search for new writers, the discovery of new writers. Selected from the most interesting debuts published in Italian literary reviews in 2006, Mario Desiati, working with the editorial staff of minimum fax, has selected in You Are Here sixteen authors likely to produce important work in the near future. The collection includes short fiction and narrative journalism—ranging from the imaginary suicide of Paris Hilton as narrated by Giancarlo Liviano to the world of the garage mechanics who "customize" the cars used by the Neapolitan Mafia, the Camorra, as described by Piero Sorrentino—providing a panoramic view of the new developments on the Italian literary landscape.
The selection of unpublished authors attempts to sketch out the potential future scene of Italian letters. And these "promising publishing developments", in their daring and diversity, follow in the footsteps of some of the most revolutionary initiatives of the recent past of the Italian literary world: Nuovi Argomenti in the Fifties, theGruppo 63 in the Sixties, the Franchi Narratori in the Seventies, theUnder 25 directed by Tondelli in the Eighties, "Ricercare" in the Nineties... and, today, You Are Here.
